All the big guns of the Rally World Championship will be present in the fifth round of the season

A total of 60 crews entered edition 2022 of the Rally Italia Sardegna, the fifth round of the FIA Rally World Championship that will get underway from June 2nd to 5th and will also be valid for the WRC2 and WRC3. These are great figures for the event organized by Automobile Club d’Italia with the support of Regione Sardegna, which confirms the results obtained in 2020 and 2021.

Participating drivers could have been more but, regrettably, organizers were forced to limit entries to only 60 cars, excluding about 10 cars due to logistic reasons and in agreement with FIA regulations.
Overall, 23 countries will be represented (Italy, Finland, Belgium, Ireland, Estonia, Japan, Great Britain, Sweden, France, Spain, Norway, Bolivia, Argentine, Czech Republic, Poland, Paraguay, Chile, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Australia, Greece and Hungary) which is a new record and confirms the international connotation of this event, showing again that the world rally championship is an international stage that promotes the image of Sardinia all over the world. A good lot of Italian drivers, 15, will be present (5 of which are from Sardinia). The second most represented country is France with 7 entered drivers and is followed by Finland with 6 drivers, Spain with 4 and all the others.

THE PROTAGONISTS. All the main crews of the World Rally Championship will be present: 11 hybrid Rally 1 cars will be driven by the 3 official Toyota drivers (Rovanpera, Evans and Lappi), Hyundai (Neuville, Tanak and Sordo) and the 4 Ford MSport (Breen, Greensmith, Fourmaux and Loubet). A fourth Yaris Rally 1 will be driven by Takamoto Katsuta, while 36 crews entered WRC2. Among these are the reigning champion Andreas Mikkelsen, the Russian Nikolay Gryazin and Bolivia’s Marcos Bulacia in the Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo of Toksport. The Finn Teemu Suninen will be in the Hyundai i20 Rally 2, the French Eric Camilli and Yohan Rossel in two Citroen C3 Rally 2. In Wrc 3, 4 drivers will be at the start: among these are the Czech Cerny and the Italian Brazzoli in a Ford Fiesta Rally 3. A total of 5 drivers will contest their home rally as they come from Sardinia: Francesco Marrone with Francesco Fresu in a Peugeot 208 T16, is the only driver to have participated in all the 19 editions of the rally. The others are Messori-P.Cottu (Skoda Fabia) and Mara-V.Cottu, Fosci-Tendas and Vacca Fois (all on Peugeot 208), and Giacomo and Davide Spanu on Ford Fiesta.
